In Florida, student interns are graduate-level clinicians currently enrolled in an accredited master’s or doctoral program in psychology, social work, mental health counseling, or a related field. As part of their required clinical training, they complete supervised practicum and internship experiences within a professional setting.

Student interns provide counseling services under the direct supervision of a qualified, licensed clinician in accordance with their university’s requirements and Florida professional standards. This supervision ensures that all services are delivered ethically, appropriately, and with a strong focus on client care.

Working with a student intern can be a valuable experience, as they are actively learning, closely supervised, and engaged in using current, evidence-based practices as they develop their clinical skills.
